When it comes to illness most of us run to conventional medicine, but as our society progresses, people are now open to alternative approaches. For Dr. Deb Muth, her journey to integrative health saved her life.
Dr. Deb is an MD and is a woman who through her health-seeking journey started and opened Serenity Health Care Center in Milwaukee. She is at the leading edge of providing and using natural supplements and bio-identical hormones to heal the body, integrating these diverse therapies with allopathic Western medicine, she can offer a highly refined approach to letting our bodies heal themselves.
In this episode, Dr. Deb shares her story which started when she was just 28 years old. When she was told by her doctor that she was going to be paralyzed, she refused to let that happen and found her way to integrative health. Through her own experience and learning, she now helps other people not rely on medications but focus on diverse therapies that can heal our bodies by themselves.
[03:07] At 28, Dr. Deb was just at the beginning of her journey. She just graduated as a women's health nurse practitioner and was a full-time mom to her kids. And at the same time, she began experiencing symptoms of Fibromyalgia or MS.
[05:08] She was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and was told that she was going to be disabled in about 4 years.
[06:12] With the support of her family and friends, Dr. Deb decided not to let her circumstance stop her from having the life she wanted. And with the help of her friends, they went into the alternative route of medicine.
[07:40] She was feeling much better as early as a month of treatment, but there were still cycles of feeling sick. Back then, she was exposed to black mold, which she suspects could be the cause.
[08:53] She started to pursue an integrative health journey and become a naturopath. It was then that she also found out that what she had was Lyme Disease.
[14:24] Who is Dr. Deb? And how did she come into the world of health?
[07:23] From learning hairstyling, Dr. Deb ended up studying nursing and had the opportunity to work in an infertility clinic with a physician who taught her cutting edge learnings that inspired her to become a doctor and not just a nurse.
[20:41] What Is integrative medicine?
[22:18] We need to give our bodies the tools it needs, which means we have to have a good foundation. Honing in a good diet that feeds your body, what it needs to heal and reduces your stress.
[24:31] You don’t need medication. What you need is to identify the root of the problem, see if you can fix it, then feed the body what it needs to make that neurotransmitter.
[28:18] How hormonal imbalance disrupts women’s life and how bioidentical hormones can safely achieve a better way of living.
[31:51] Nutrigenomics is the future of medicine.
[33:36] The connection between Lyme Disease and hormones.
[36:45] Dr. Deb is also a certified sex counselor and she believes that women in the second half of their life can still have an amazing sex life.
[41:18] To achieve a physical connection and reignite love, you have to be willing to reengage your connection with your partner.
[44:50] When we start appreciating and accepting who we are and loving ourselves, then we can give a lot more loving energy to others in our lives. - Dr. Deb
[45:54] One of her patients, Amber, is an amazing lady who 10 years ago was in a wheelchair and can’t speak but she is now an advocate of Lyme Disease and Addison’s Disease.
